CBS says it has renewed Under the Dome for a third season and ordered a second season of Extant.
Both shows from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television will return for broadcast next summer.
"We're committed to delivering our viewers and advertisers year-round programming with a wide variety of storytelling," Nina Tassler, chairman of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement Thursday. "We continue to see summer as a great place for unique concepts, innovative business models and passionate television audiences."
Under the Dome is a supernatural series based on a Stephen King story about how the inhabitants of a small town survive after a mysterious dome seals them off from the rest of the world. The drama stars Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Colin Ford, Aisha Hinds and Eddie Cahill.
Starring Halle Berry and Goran Visnjic, Extant is a mystery thriller about a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space.
