Europe seized a narrow 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 lead over the United States after the opening foursomes matches in the Solheim Cup women's golf matches. France's Karine Icher and Scotland's Catriona Matthew grabbed the final point of the morning for Europe with a 1 up win over Stacy Lewis and Gerina Piller. Sweden's Anna Nordqvist and England's Georgia Hall never trailed en route to a 3 & 1 victory over Paula Creamer and Austin Ernst. The English duo of Mel Reid and Charley Hull halved their match with Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson, and Danielle Kang and Lizette Salas gave the US their only win of the morning when Kang sank a birdie putt at the final hole for a 1 up win over Spain's Carlota Ciganda and Germany's Caroline Masson.
