Bahrain achieved another remarkable feat at the Fifth GCC Women’s Games, being held in Doha.
The nationals put in spirited performances to win the table tennis team event silver medal and the bowling team event bronze. With three days remaining, Bahrain now have 19 medals in total, including 6 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze.
On the third day of the bowling competition, staged at Qatar Bowling Centre, singles event gold medalist Noora Sultan led a four-member team to a third-place finish totaling 3,664 points.
Oman topped the standings with 4,230 points to secure the gold medal, while the UAE team managed3,810 to finish second and with it the silver medal.
Noora Sultan and Layla Janahi also managed high individual scores and qualified for the Masters event, scheduled for today on the concluding day of bowling events.
Bahrain Bowling Association president Abdulla Al Dossary, joined by other high-ranking delegation representatives, congratulated the team on the result right after the finals.
Elsewhere, Bahrain maintained their solid form in the table tennis championships as the pair of KalthamElyasi and Maryam Al A’ali reached the final of the team competition before losing out to Qatari Aya Mahdi and MahaFramzi1-3, to settle for the silver medal.
In the singles, Kaltham Elyasi, Maryam Al A’ali, Maryam Al Balooshi and Amal Al Nuaimi made it to the finals, scheduled for today.
The table tennis championship concludes today with the singles final, to be followed by the prize-presentation ceremony.
In the basketball championship, Bahrain look to regaining their winning ways today when they take on the UAE in the second leg’s first game in this three-team round robin battle. A win for Bahrain today will keep the Bahraini team chances for the competition’s gold medal.
The handball, volleyball, taekwondo, fencing and shooting teams have already returned home after some impressive performances at the games.
