The Dow and S&P 500 closed at fresh highs on Monday, with the blue-chip index notching its first record since March 2, following acquisitions in the pharmaceutical and apparel sectors.
At the closing bell, Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 18,295.11, up 22.55 points (0.12), breaching the prior mark by about six points. The S&P 500 notched its third successive record, rising 6.23 (0.29 percent) to 2,128.96, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 30.15 (0.60 percent) to 5,078.44.
