Tropical Storm Nate, moving through Central America and headed towards southern Mexico and the US, killed 20 people on Thursday, officials in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras said. Nicaragua bore 11 of the deaths, according to its vice president, Rosario Murillo. She said another seven people were missing. Costa Rican officials spoke of six deaths: four Costa Ricans, including a three-year-old girl, killed by falling trees and mudslides, and two young immigrant Nicaraguan farm workers. In Honduras, officials gave a count of three dead so far. Tropical Storm Nate was located over eastern Honduras late Thursday. |
