Al Majaz Waterfront, Sharjah’s premium tourist destination, will play host to Egyptian chef Nermine Hanno and Syrian chef Mohammad Orfali on the weekend of April 8-9. The popular culinary experts will be performing cooking shows for the audiences in the ‘Celebrity Chefs Live Cooking Demonstration,’ part of the Sharjah Food Festival. Organised by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), the popular annual culinary event’s slogan this year is ‘Many Flavours, one Festival’.
Chef Nermine Hanno will present her delicious dishes to the audience on Friday, April 8, from 8:30 to 10:00am. Saturday will see chef Mohammad Orfali conclude Sharjah Food Festival’s exciting activities, which have been taking place over 10 days at Sharjah’s four leading tourism destinations; Al Qasba, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Montazah and Heart of Sharjah.
Chef Nermine Hanno holds the ‘Grand Diplome, Culinary Arts’ qualification in cuisine and pastry, which she received from the London branch of Le Cordon Bleu. Trained under Michelin-starred chef Chris Galvin, she is a member of the Egyptian Chefs Association and the World Association of Chefs Society. Nermine has edited a book titled ‘Cooking Types of Alexandria’ and was the recipient of an Honorary Mention from the Regional Congress of Peru for preparing the best potato-based recipe in the world.
Chef Mohammad Orfali specialises in creating Aleppian dishes, inheriting unique Syrian recipes from his mother and grandmother who played a crucial role in teaching him Aleppian cuisine’s secrets and techniques, which he uses to fuse with contemporary cuisine. Mohammad holds Diplomas in Food and Beverage Service and Culinary Management from Aleppo Hospitality Institute and has attained certificates from the acclaimed Le Notre School, Paris. Author of the first digital cookbook on Aleppian Cuisine, ‘Ana Halabi’ (‘I Am Aleppian’), chef Mohammad has participated in numerous international food fairs and festivals. He is a member of the World Association of Chefs and the Emirates Culinary Guild.
