Samo Zain explained his ‘disappearance’ from the entertainment scene following the incident where he danced outside the Syrian Embassy in Cairo whilst carrying a picture of Assad, down to his belief that he does not have the right to talk about politics seeing as he is not a politician himself. Zain said: “I don’t think artists can talk about politics, just as a Minister cannot speak about entertainment.” He added: “when I was outside the Syrian Embassy in Cairo that was in support of the reforms suggested by Assad and to reaffirm the notion that Egypt and Syria are one. The Arab world is currently going through a tense stage, which makes me say ‘if voicing your opinion is like silver, then keeping it to yourself is like gold.” The artist continued: “I don’t like bloodshed and I refuse to see Arabs dying whatever their religion or color is. I am not for the revolution either; I am with my country and its people as I care and worry about it. However, my opinion won’t make a difference whether I was for or against the revolution.” The star said that he has lived in Egypt for over 16 years, which means that he is unaware of what goes on in Syria. “I’m certain that Syria needs reforms and changes,” he said. As for his personal life Samo said: “I am getting married very soon, I haven’t set a date for the wedding yet but God willing I will announce the date in 2012 and I won’t change it because I can’t wait to get married and have a family.” Samo is currently preparing for a new album titled “I want you,” which will include songs in Arabic, English and Greek.
