Muna Shalabi caused a storm when she decided to head to Tahrir Square in order to take part in the protests last Friday. However, the protestors were less than happy, and complained about her presence, noting that she has not been to the Square from the beginning of the revolution to show her support. In addition, they complained about the condescending comment she made to them as she was trying to film a movie scene, acting the role of a “protestor”, stating: “Isn’t it enough that I’ve agreed to be filmed with you?” On his Twitter page, Director Yusri Nasrallah explains what really happened at the square with Muna, as he was there himself filming scenes for his upcoming documentary film about the beginning of the revolution and up until now. Yusri wrote that there was a tense atmosphere in the Square, as protestors were angry about Muna’s absence during the 18-days. He finally claimed that Muna had stated that she felt “honored to appear alongside the protestors of Tahrir Square.” Muna’s mother, artist Zizi Mustafa, explained that her daughter was surprised at the attacks against her, but stated that Muna believes that “the protestors thought she was there to film a video clip, when in fact she was there to film a scene from her upcoming film where she plays the character of a martyr’s mother. When she was in the Square she met some of the martyrs’ mothers and paid her respects to them.” She added: “Muna has taken part in the revolution from the beginning and even cleaned the street she lives on after the events, but she refused to be filmed doing so.”
