Cairo - Arabstoday

Egyptian prominent actor Ashraf Abd al Ghafoor was able to win over the largest number of votes in the Actors Union elections. The actor has won the post of Head of the Actors Union defeating actor Ashraf Zaki by 500 votes. Ashraf Abd Al Ghafoor received 846 votes, Ashraf Zaki, 333 votes and Ahmad Maher 98 votes. The elections witnessed numerous disputes between voters to the extent that in some cases there were physical fights. Actress Nihal Anbar had strongly supported Ashraf Zaki, a matter that was rejected by some and led to a brawl. In addition an argument broke out between Ahmad Maher and the supporters of Ashraf Zaki. Maher had began using foul language against Zaki’s supporters and raised his shoe at them in an attempt to demean them. On his part, Ashraf Abd Al Ghafoor expressed his joy and honor after his victory of winning the highest number of votes ever witnessing throughout the history of the Union. Al Ghafoor thanked the organizers of the elections for all the efforts they placed in making the elections the most democratic in the past 60 years. Al Ghafoor made a special thanks the people behind Egypt’s January 25 Revolution and stressed that the elections which took place with integrity and transparency is a result of the blood of martyrs and their success in eliminating corruption. He also expressed deeply thanked all who participated in the elections, especially since there were a lot of artists reluctant to cast their ballots due to the fact that in the past elections lacked transparency.
