Egyptian actor Ahmed Eid has spoken out against comedian Adel Imam's imprisonment on charges of "defaming religion" due to allegedly ridiculing Islam in his films. Though the actor believes that Imam excessively ridiculed Islamist movements in his films, he said it was impossible to hold a great actor like Imam accountable for his historic performances. Eid stated that the censorship board was entitled to delete scenes it considered inappropriate and it was illogical to restrict entertainment according to certain views. Egyptian actor Hany Ramzy also declared his support for Imam and considered the accusations "a challenge to creativity".
