The most famous Italian chamber orchestra "I solisti veneti" (Venetian soloists) gave Thursday night a concert of classical music dedicated to virtuosity and melody of Italian music in the Mahieddine Bachtarzi National Theatre in Algiers.
Organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Algiers on the occasion of the Italian Presidency of the European Council, the concert allowed the Algerian audience to discover this orchestra which gave over 5000 concerts across the world.
Conducted by maestro Claudio Scimone, who founded the orchestra in 1959, the set consisting of three violin, cello and wind instrument, -which changes according to the chosen parts-, performed creations of a large number of Italian composers of the 17th and 18th century.
The orchestra, whose last concert in Algiers took place twelve years ago, have enthralled the audience thanks to the virtuoso violinist Lucio Degani who shone through speed and exceptional fluidity on partitions as "Madness" by Antonio Vivaldi, "The Lady of the Lake" by Gioachino Rossini and "it is easy to enter, but difficult to exit" by Pietro Antonio Locatelli.
Receiving a standing ovation from the audience, Lucio Degani played repeatedly partitions originally composed for two violins or a cello revisiting in his way major Italian works.
Replacing the harpsichord by piano, maestro Claudio Scimone accompanied his musicians in a composition of violin and harpsichord by Giuseppe Tartini.
Created in 1959 by Claudio Scimone, the chamber orchestra "I solisti veneti" gave concerts in nearly 80 countries and recorded nearly 350 titles, promoting the Italian music by an exciting style, which has earned them several international awards.
