Organizers of a music festival in The Bahamas that was billed as a luxury getaway but collapsed in chaos promised refunds Saturday — and said they would try again next year.
Palestinian-American model Bella Hadid, who had been caught up in controversy due to her previous promotion of the Frye Festival, took to Twitter to address the situation firsthand.
She made it clear that it “was not her project whatsoever” and that she “wasn’t informed about the production or process.”
“I initially trusted this would be an amazing & memorable experience for all of us, which is why I agreed to do one promotion...not knowing about the disaster that was to come...,” she said.
“I feel so sorry and badly because this is something I couldn’t stand by, although of course if I would have known about the outcome, you would have all known too.”
“I hope everyone is safe and back with their families and loves ones...xo...”
The Fyre Festival was abruptly aborted Friday after hundreds of party-goers — who had paid for tickets costing up to $12,000 and VIP packages that rose to $250,000 — arrived only to be welcomed by relief-camp style tents and rudimentary sandwiches rather than the promised lavish experience.
The festival, led by New York rapper Ja Rule and tech entrepreneur Billy McFarland, one day later apologized and said all festival goers would be refunded.
“Also, all guests from this year will have free VIP passes to next year’s festival,” said a statement on its website.
